After releasing a souvenir sheet that focused on the scenery of Taitung county in 2016, Chunghwa Post is following up with a souvenir sheet on scenic sights in Tainan City. The sheet has a hand-painted style. Four stamps are found within a decorative selvage that shows the dawn in Erliao and a field of lotuses in Baihe. The designs follow: 1. Jingzaijiao Tile-paved Salt Field (NT$5): This salt field is located in the Beimen District of Tainan and has been abandoned. In recent years the Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Administration has resurrected the field as an attraction where tourists can experience the traditional method of creating sea salt and have fun carrying and harvesting salt. It’s a family-friendly attraction. 2. Tainan Confucian Temple (NT$9): Established in 1665, it is Taiwan’s oldest Confucian temple and regarded as Taiwan’s first educational institution, it is today a national-level historic site. Every year there are two ceremonies, following old rites, to honor Confucius, one in the spring and one in the fall. These are important intangible assets of the Chinese cultural heritage. 3. Chikan Lou (NT$12): In 1653 the Dutch established a military base in Tainan that they called Fort Provintia. It has only reached its present state after successive renovations. Fort Provintia has well preserved cultural relics that capture the pulse of different historical eras. It is one of Tainan City’s most famous national-level historic sites. 4. Anping Sword Lions (NT$12): Historically, the households of Tainan’s Anping District installed architectural sword lions on their homes to bring good fortune and ward off evil spirits. In their depiction and materials, each of these sword lions demonstrates a unique character, and collectively they give a unique cultural character to the residential neighborhood of Anping. By-issues: (1) First Day Cover in large size: NT$3 apiece (2) Folder (with or without mount): NT$8 apiece (3) Loose-leaf album page: NT$16 apiece (4) Pre-cancelled FDC affixed with a souvenir sheet: NT$41 apiece
